ICL Course Information (2025 Fall) *Offered at Other National Universities
*Application is closed.
2025 Intercultural Collaborative Learning (ICL) Courses are OPEN for applications! Five national universities in Japan —Tohoku University, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Shinshu University, Osaka University(No classes offered at this time), and Kobe University— offer credit-bearing online courses this Fall. Please refer to the website for Intercultural Collaborative Learning-Learning Across Diverse Cultures.
IPLA students are eligible to take ICL courses offered by the above national universities online. Since ICL courses offered by other universities require registration at each university, we will ask you about courses you wish to take at other universities prior to your registration at Tohoku University. Please note that registration for Tohoku University courses will not be available until October.
▶ Application Period: Aug. 8th - 25th (noon)
▶ Course Information: Course List
2025 Fall ICL Program Course Registration Form *Application will open on August 8
Important Note:
- Please note that there is a limit to the number of students who can take each course, so even if you submit a request for a course, you may not be able to take it.
- This is a unique program that allows students to study online at five other universities in Japan, however, as it is a joint operation with another university, careful consideration should be given to avoid having to change or cancel courses as much as possible.
- Although the syllabus has not yet been disclosed, Tohoku University plans to offer nearly 30 other Intercultural Collaborative Learning courses in person, so we recommend that each student takes no more than one course.
- Avoid Wednesday and Friday mornings when Japanese language classes are intensive at Tohoku University.
- If you take any of the ICL courses that are on the course list, they will be approved as ICL courses for IPLA completion requirements, and the credits you earn can be included in the 15 credits required for completion of IPLA.
