Apartment Information Seminar for International Students

On December 15 (Thu.), a seminar titled "Renting Apartments for Beginners," was held at the International Exchange Building on Kawauchi Kita Campus. The seminar was aimed at international students who are about to leave their dormitories and rent apartments in Sendai for the first time.

Rikuzentakata Volunteer Tour 2016

The Rikuzentakata Volunteer Tour 2016 for international students was conducted from December 17th (Fri.) to 18th (Sun.), 2016. Seventeen international students from Italy, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Cameroon, Taiwan, China, Poland, Malaysia, and South Africa participated.

“LinkedIn” Workshop

On 10 November 2016, a workshop on “LinkedIn”, which is one of the largest business-oriented SNSs, was organized by the Global Learning Center of Tohoku University. The workshop started at 18:00 in the Flexible Area of the Main Library and attracted more than 65 attendees including not only students but also administrative and academic staff members.

FGL Survival Japanese Program

The FGL Survival Japanese Program was conducted for new FGL students from 23rd to 30th September 2016. The students learned essential expressions and vocabulary for daily life in Sendai and had time to walk around campus and the city with Japanese students during this program.

Tohoku University Professor Fujino Incentive Award 2016

Five Chinese students have been conferred the Tohoku University Professor Fujino Incentive Award for 2016. They received their certificates from university president Susumu Satomi at a ceremony on September 27. The Tohoku University Professor Fujino Incentive Award reflects the strong friendship and trust between China and Japan, and is given out each year to students who best embody that spirit.

A big success for the FGL Summer School 2016

Every summer, the Future Global Leadership (FGL) Program invites foreign high school students, who are interested in fields of science and technology, to let them learn about and experience the Tohoku University FGL program in Sendai, and Japanese culture. The participants for this year’s summer school from August 3 to 5 were students and teachers from top high schools in China, Indonesia, Thailand, United States of America, and Vietnam.

Tanabata Decorations, Handmade by International and Japanese Students

As part of an International Co-learning Class, titled "Understanding Japan through Miyagi's Traditional Culture," 55 international and Japanese students designed and constructed Tanabata decorations.

Tohoku University Japanese Program: TUJP – Summer 2016

56 students from partner universities in 15 countries spent two weeks learning Japanese language, attending lectures on various topics, experiencing Japanese culture, and making friends on the Tohoku University Japanese Program.

A seminar, titled "Renting Apartments for Beginners," was held in the lobby of Tohoku University International House Sanjo 1 on July 21 (Thu), 2016. The seminar was aimed at international students who will be moving out of their dorms this fall and renting an apartment in Japan for the first time.

A seminar on studying and working in Sweden was held on campus recently. Jointly organized by the Student Exchange Division and the Swedish Embassy, the event introduced students to opportunities in Swedish companies and encouraged them to think globally about their future.

Tohoku International Suzume Odori Team at Aoba Festival

This year, like last year, the Tohoku International Suzume Odori Team, created as part of a Tohoku University international co-learning class titled "Understanding Japan through Miyagi's Traditional Culture," participated in the Sendai Aoba Festival. This year's festival, held May 14 to 15, marked the 32nd time the festival has been held.

On January 16 (Sat.), TUFSA (T.U. Foreign Students Association) and SCRUM (a team of students who work at the T.U. Great East Japan Earthquake Volunteer Support Office) held a study tour of Onagawa and Ishinomaki for international students. About 40 international students participated.
