Of the 29 students who enrolled in the Future Global Leadership (FGL) program in October 2020, 7 students so far have traveled to Japan and started their lives in Sendai (as of December 15). Those students arrived in Sendai after passing through PCR tests and quarantine at hotels for 2 weeks. They are participating in hybrid lectures (online and onsite at the same time) at Kawauchi campus.

On December 4th, they participated in a special orientation held for the students who came to Sendai, where they obtained useful information for their university life, especially on how to deal with disasters, how to use the university library, and the various peer support systems offered at Tohoku University. After that, they had their first face-to-face interaction with students from TUSTEM* and FGL Community* who assisted them in the "FGL Pre-enrollment Education".

"I'm really enjoying life exploring the beauty of Tohoku University and Sendai, talking with all kinds of people from different countries, and being productive with school.” said Jerome Monsanto from the Philippines. Tassaphon Tirasutt from Thailand said “I think Sendai is a very nice city and people here are so kind to me. Now I am looking forward to all of my 1st year friends to come to Sendai so we can go onsite and have great experiences together here.” The FGL program hopes to be able to welcome the rest of the 1st year students from overseas so they can finally meet their friends and professors.
