IPLA (Fall 2021)

As of September 1, 2021

IPLA (Fall 2021)

At this moment, we are still waiting for updates from the Japanese Government on the COVID-19 related visa issuance.

Fall & Spring (full year) students:

In case entry restrictions are still not lifted by the end of September, we will make selected courses available online so that you can start studying with us. At the moment, it has been decided that the Japanese courses will be offered online. As for other courses, we will inform you of the updated course descriptions, including the method for offering the classes, by the end of September as we are still working on it. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause you.

As soon as the restrictions ease, you can begin applying for a visa. Some of the classes adopt highly flexible styles of instruction. If you opt to take these classes online, you may switch to in-person after arriving in Japan. We will let you know as soon as we receive the updated information.

Fall only students:

If entry restrictions are not lifted by the end of September, you will be taking online courses only. At the moment, it has been decided that the Japanese courses will be offered online. We will inform you of the updated course descriptions by the end of September as we are still working on the method for offering the classes. If the restriction is not lifted by 15 October, you will take the course online from your home country for the Fall semester. This is a difficult decision to make, however, we appreciate your understanding that your safety is of paramount importance to us in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Changes in Credit requirement for completion of IPLA:
The minimum credit requirement for IPLA is 15 per semester. However, given the situation, we have set the requirement to 4 only for this fall semester. We anticipate that some students will continue to take classes at their home institutions during this period. In addition, we would like to account for time differences for those who take our online classes from abroad.

Per immigration policy, students staying in Japan are required to engage in at least 10 hours of coursework. To ensure that you reach the required credit load, we will provide additional workshops once you can come to Japan.

We understand that the situation is very frustrating. Although we are doing our best, everything depends on decisions made by the Japanese government. We would greatly appreciate your kind understanding and patience.
