The Tohoku University International Student Help Desk organized a cultural exchange trip on June 7th, visiting Hiraizumi Town (Chuson-ji Temple) and Oshu City (Esashi-Fujiwara Heritage Park) in Iwate Prefecture.
The purpose of this trip was to promote intercultural exchange between international and domestic students while deepening their understanding of Japanese culture. A total of 40 participants joined the trip, including 10 domestic students and 30 international students from 17 different countries.
To encourage interaction, participants were divided into five groups and took part in a photo contest and other activities that fostered meaningful communication between international and Japanese students.
Through this program, students were able to experience the culture and history of Japan’s Heian period, allowing them to further develop as cultural ambassadors who can share Japanese history with the world.
Comments from the participants expressed high levels of satisfaction, with one student noting:
“It was a valuable opportunity to genuinely use English in conversation.”
