On May 27th, 2021, the Global Learning Center (GLC) at Tohoku University started the second phase of the Tohoku University Japanese Program (TUJP) Online for the 2021 Academic Year.

The second phase of TUJP targets Japanese language students with intermediate or higher proficiency. The program has courses on practical Japanese language for future study abroad in Japan, Japanese society and culture, and interaction with Tohoku University students. It also introduces them to the graduate schools.

The program term is three weeks long, finishing on June 16th, and has eight students from Singapore, China, Taiwan, France, Italy, and Malaysia. One participant was an exchange student in AY 2019. The student describes his motivation as improving his Japanese skill.

At the orientation on the first day, the students went through self-introductions, guidance on studying, and the buddy system supported by Tohoku University students. After the orientation, the participants enthusiastically took part in a Japanese course.
