Are all classes held in real time?

Yes. Almost all the classes are in real time. One of the strengths of this program is that students can interact with the instructors, participants and Tohoku University students.

授業は全てリアルタイム授業でしょうか？

授業はほぼ全てリアルタイムです。教員や、参加者、東北大生などと交流ができることが魅力のプログラムとなっています。

How are absences handled?

Since TUJP puts an importance on real-time interactions, students are required to attend more than 85% of all the sessions held in real-time to pass the program.

Classes heavily incorporate live discussions and interaction.. Students should avoid absences as much as possible in order to benefit from interactive learning. Also, students should notify the instructor in advance if they will be absent.

Handling of absences depends on the class instructor. The instructor may ask students to do make-up homework.,But, in some cases, the student's grade will be reduced due to the absence.

欠席の場合はどうなりますか？

TUJPでは、参加者同士のインタラクションを重視しているため、リアルタイムセッションの85％以上への出席をプログラム合格の要件としています。リアルタイムでのディスカッションや交流が授業に多く取り入れられています。できるだけ欠席をしないようお願いします。欠席する場合には、必ず事前に連絡するようにしてください。

欠席の場合、授業ごとに対応は違います。ホームワークで欠席部分を埋め合わせることができる場合もありますが、欠席分が埋め合わせできない場合もあります。

 

What are the grading criteria?

Japanese language classes account for 70% of the overall grade, while classes on Japanese culture, society, and international co-learning make up the remaining 30%. Grading standards vary slightly depending on the class, but are generally based on the student's level of participation, assignments, etc. Detailed grading criteria will be sent to successful applicants.

成績の基準を教えてください。

これまで実施したオンラインプログラムでは、日本語の授業に関する成績を全体の７０％、日本文化・社会講義と国際共修授業に関する成績を全体の３０％として成績をつけています。参加していただくプログラムごとに成績評価基準が多少異なりますが、授業への参加態度や、課題への取り組み状況などを主に評価しています。詳しい成績評価基準は、参加決定者にご案内しています。

＜Admission Process　事務手続きについて＞

 

When will participants be chosen?

In about a month and a half. Once the details of the program are finalized, the selected participants will be sent admissions and payment instructions.

参加の決定はいつ頃ですか？

一か月半前ごろの予定です。開催決定後、受入通知・支払いの案内をお送りいたします。

 

When and how will students receive their transcripts?

About a month after the program concludes, each student will be sent a PDF file of their transcript. Those who need their transcripts more quickly should contact us.

成績証明書はいつ頃、どのような形で入手できますか？

コース終了後1か月ほどで、PDF版の成績証明書を学生に個別に送信いたします。お急ぎの場合は別途お問い合わせください。

 

What is ECTS?

ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) is a credit exchange system used in the EU. 1 ECTS is equivalent to 25 hours of work.

ECTSとは何ですか？

ECTS（European Credit Transfer and Accumulation Systemヨーロッパ単位互換評価制度）とは、ヨーロッパ各国で共通に用いられる大学の単位制度です。1ECTSは25時間の学習に相当します。

 

 

TUJP In-Person  FAQ 

 

＜Language Proficiency Test 語学能力試験について＞

 

I don’t have an English language ability certificate or test score. Can I use the JLPT instead? Also, what English proficiency tests do you accept?

-For risk-management purposes, the in-person program requires that students submit documentation proving that they have at minimum sufficient English proficiency to understand information/directions in English. Any internationally recognized English proficiency test, such as TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, etc., is acceptable.

「English language ability certificate and scores」がない場合は日本語能力試験が使えますか？また、どのような英語能力試験が使えますか？

-対面でのプログラムは、危機管理のため、英語による情報提供・指示を理解できる最低限の英語運用能力を証明できる書類の提出をお願いしています。
英語能力試験の種類は、TOEFLやTOEIC、IELTSなど、国際的に使われている試験であれば種類は特に問いません。

 

＜Participation Eligibility 参加資格＞

 

I don’t belong to a Tohoku University partner school. The website says that students can participate in TUJP-Online even if they are not enrolled at a partner school. If I take TUJP Online Basic, can I participate in TUJP In-Person, even though I am not from a partner school?

-Yes. Students who are not from partner schools, and have participated in one of the past TUJP Online programs, can apply for TUJP In-Person. However, the number of students we accept will be limited. There will be a screening to select participants, and there is no guarantee that everyone who applies will be get in.

現在、非協定校に在籍していますが、ホームページで「TUJP-Onlineの過去の参加者は、東北大学の協定校に在籍していなくても応募できる」と見ました。これは、TUJP Online Basicに参加すれば、協定校に所属している者でなくてもTUJP In-Personに参加できるということでしょうか？

-協定校以外の学生で、これまでにすでに実施済みのTUJP Onlineに参加した場合は、TUJP In-Personにも応募することができます。ただし、受け入れ可能な人数に限りがあります。参加者の決定にあたり、選考がありますので、応募された方全員の合格・参加を保証するものではありません。

 

 

＜Visas ビザ＞

Can Tohoku University apply for a visa on my behalf for TUJP In-Person?

-It depends on your country/region of citizenship. We only plan to hold TUJP In-Person if the Japanese government lifts immigration restrictions for countries whose citizens are eligible for a visa waiver. If you are from a country/region where a visa is required to enter Japan, please inform us.

TUJP In-Personの学生ビザ申請は東北大学で行ってもらえるのでしょうか？

-出身の国・地域にもよりますが、TUJP In-Personは、日本政府がビザ免除対象国への入国制限を解除した場合に開催される予定です。入国に際して、ビザの必要な国・地域の出身の場合はお申し出ください。

＜Cancellation of Program/Refunds　実施可否・返金＞

 

Even if the university decides that TUJP In-Person will be held, and even if I am accepted, can I cancel if, for example, the COVID-19 pandemic worsens, and new immigration restrictions are in effect at the time the program is being held? In such cases, can I get a refund?

-If you cancel after the decision has been made to hold TUJP In-Person, Tohoku University will not refund any fees you have paid.

If Tohoku University decides not to conduct TUJP In-Person after you have paid, you will be refunded all fees you paid to Tohoku University minus any refund handling fees.
Regarding refunds for other arrangements you make individually for this program, please check the relevant companies' refund policies yourself.

 

 In-Personの実施が決定し、参加者として認められたとしても、その後コロナウィルス感染の状況が悪化するなどにより、TUJP In-Personが実施されるタイミングで入国制限がある場合、参加をキャンセルすることはできますか？その場合、返金はされますか？

-TUJP In-Personについて、実施を決定した後、自らキャンセルする場合は、東北大学にお支払いいただいた諸費用等は返金不可となります。

また、参加費をお支払いいただいた後、東北大学の都合により、TUJP In-Personを実施しないと決定した場合、東北大学側に支払った諸費用から、返金手数料を差し引いた上で返金する予定です。

この他、プログラム参加までの個人が負担する費用については、キャンセルポリシーを各自 確認してください。
