📝 Important Notes

  • Applications must be submitted individually by each student.
  • If the application is incomplete or missing documents it may not be accepted.
  • Make sure to check your email regularly for updates.

Process from Application to Participation

🟢 Step 1: Submit Application (📅 about 4 months before the start of the program)
  • Complete the online application form.
  • Upload all required documents.
  • Submit by the application deadline.

📩 You will receive an automatic confirmation email.

Application Procedure

STEP ① : Prepare the required documents.

Ⅰ. Certificate of Enrollment.
  • A certificate of enrollment verifying your enrollment during the program. The document must be in English.

*Please submit a document, such as a Certificate of Enrollment, that indicates your expected date of graduation.

If your Certificate of Enrollment does not indicate your expected graduation date, please submit this document in addition to your Certificate of Enrollment.

Ⅱ. Personal Identification

  • A copy of your passport (photo page)

Ⅲ. Proof of English Language Ability

  • Submit a copy of your English proficiency test scores (e.g., TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, etc.)

*English requirement will be waived if a student satisfies one of the following conditions:

  • they are currently enrolled in the universities in one of the countries shown below.
  • they have completed a high school or university degree earned from one of the countries shown below.
Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore, United Kingdom, United States

Applicants who are enrolled in a course in which classes are generally taught in English may submit a CERTIFICATE issued by their home university verifying their enrollment in place of a language certificate.

STEP ② : Complete the online application form.

Fill in all required fields accurately.

STEP ③ : Upload all required documents via the application form before the deadline.

STEP ④ : Submit the application.

*Once submitted successfully, you will receive an automatic confirmation email.

🔵 Step 2: Screening & Selection (📅 about 10 weeks before the start of the program)
  • Applications are reviewed by Tohoku University.
  • Selected participants will be notified.

🟡 Step 3: Acceptance & Payment (📅 about 9 weeks before the start of the program)
  • Receive an official Acceptance Letter.
  • Follow the instructions to make the payment.

💳 Payment must be completed by the payment deadline.

🟢 Step 4: Japanese Language Proficiency Test (📅 about 9 weeks before the start of the program)
  • Participants must take a Japanese language proficiency test and submit their scores for class placement.
  • Take the online Japanese test, SPOT Japanese Test (TTBJ / SPOT 90)
  • Submit your test result

*Students must submit their SPOT Japanese test results, unless they have never studied Japanese before.

🧪 How to Take the SPOT Japanese Test

1. Go to the official SPOT test website:

Once you finish the test, your scores will be displayed on the screen.

📄 Submitting Your Scores

2. After taking the test and receiving your results, please download them, them upload them to your application form.

📝 Important Notes

Your SPOT score will be used as a reference for class placement.

It is not a pass/fail test, and you will not be disqualified based on your score.

Please upload your test result when submitting your application.

🟠 Step 5 : Pre-departure Preparation (📅 By the start of the program)
  • Receive program details (schedule, housing, etc.)
  • Purchase travel insurance.
  • Prepare necessary travel documents.

🟣 Step 6 : Arrival & Program Start (📅 By the start of the program)
  • Arrive in Sendai on the designated arrival date.
  • Join the orientation session.
