The Tohoku University Japanese Program (TUJP) Online Winter course was held from November 8th to 19th, 2021.

The 4th TUJP course for this academic year, TUJP Online Winter (TUJP-Basic) welcomed 8 students from 5 overseas partner schools in France, Germany, and Indonesia.

Using original content developed by Tohoku University, the participants took interactive Japanese language classes conducted by instructors and Tohoku University students, and learned about Japanese culture including sake and Sendai's traditional Sparrow Dance. In addition, they interacted with Tohoku University students both in and out of class.

On the final day (November 19), the students gave presentations in Japanese. They amused the audience with comedy shows based on groupwork they did during the program on the theme of "warai" (humor).

One student commented, "Until now I'd been studying Japanese on my own, but studying together with Tohoku University instructors/students and students from around the world through this online program gave me a lot of confidence. I hope they create a longer program in the future.

"The Global Learning Center will hold another TUJP course in February of this academic year, and is preparing for both in-person and online programs in the 2022 academic year.
