On 6 December 2025, Global Learning Centre of Tohoku University and the University of Sydney, with support from the Australia-Japan Foundation, held a symposium entitled “Educational Diplomacy: Youth- led Intercultural Collaboration Towards Inclusive and Resilient Societies”. This event brought young people together to explore the future of multicultural symbiosis through dialogue with a variety of speakers.

Around 120 participants, including Tohoku University students, international students and high school students from Sendai-city, joined the event. Opening remarks from Tohoku University and the Australian Embassy emphasized the importance of youth exchange and partnership building in shaping future societies. Speakers from Tohoku University, the University of Sydney, the local government and civil society organizations from both countries introduced their initiatives to promote multicultural coexistence. This was followed by an active discussion with students.

The symposium provided valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities of creating inclusive and resilient communities and demonstrated how ongoing efforts and collaborative practices can drive positive social change. Global Learning Centre of Tohoku University will continue to work with external partners to promote co-creative social collaborative learning opportunities.
