[What is TUSTEM]
Tohoku University has a lot of excellent STEM students, such as winners
of the Science Olympics, from across the globe! However, interactions
among the STEM students are unfortunately not active due to a heavy load
of classes and laboratory works. In order to enhance interactions in the
STEM student community, we have established an international exchange
organization, TUSTEM (Tohoku University STEM Student Network).

・Organizing and facilitating activities/events, such as
    Language Exchange with Dinner [at 18:30-20:00 in Midori Dining of
    New Aobayama Campus]  enjoy casual chatting in English and Japanese
    with dinner
 ・Academic Dinner (held irregularly) [in general at 18:30-20:00 in
     Aobayama Commons of New Aobayama Campus] present your
     research in English under casual atmosphere
 ・Weekend Activity (held irregularly) make friends in both social and
     academic events
     Social events: Potluck party, Barbecue, Fireworks, Picnic, IMONI,
    Trip to Zao, etc.
     Academic events: e.g., Coffee Chat Event with Prof. H. Ohno (former
     president of Tohoku University).

[Job Description of TUSTEM Leader]
 ・Preparing and organizing TUSTEM activities/events
    (basically, not AA* work)
　  The activities/events aim to promote interactions among TUSTEM
     undergraduate and graduate students
 ・Helping university's events and programs for international
    students, etc.* (AA work)
　  e.g. Assisting FGL prospective students' Pre-enrollment Program,
            various activities and final presentation sessions by international
            students of exchange and short programs, etc.
*: About AA position
   A TUSTEM leader will be hired as an Administrative Assistant (AA) at
   Tohoku University which is an official
　hiring position at the university like as TA or RA. If you could help in a
    university event/program, you will be paid hourly.

 

 

Requirements for TUSTEM leader

No specific skill is required to become a TUSTEM leaer. However, you must have a motivation to enhance internationalization at Tohoku University, and show a commitment and responsibility for the leader's job. For example, attending meetings and events and promptly responding to any messages request your response.

A TUSTEM leader will be hired as an Administrative Assistant (AA) of Tohoku University and may be paid by the university when you assist a university's event as a TUSTEM leader.

Here are the employment conditions as an AA.

Apr. 1 - Sep. 30, 2026
(The employment contract would be renewed every semester if necessary.)
Hourly wage

1160 - 1360 yen/hour (according to your academic year) as of Jan. 2026
