“I was studying at Tohoku University, in the Graduate School of Economics and Management in 2012-2013. I was a student in the Direct Enrollment Education Program (DEEP), in which you are able to do your own research and participate in courses if you wish to. This was perfect for me, because I could focus on my master’s thesis research and study Japanese language and culture. The courses that I completed helped me to understand Japanese way of life. Japanese management studies also provided a great background for my master’s thesis research. The topic of my thesis was cross-cultural communication in Japanese corporations. The professors were really helpful, and I very much enjoyed the way the course work was organized. The year in Japan was truly wonderful. I discovered a culture that was completely different from anything I had experienced before. Additionally, I learned a new language and made friends for life. I had two great tutors, which was an excellent way of cultural exchange. During school holidays, I had the chance to travel in Japan. The university organized several field trips that were very educational and entertaining. Indeed, Sendai and Tohoku region are full of beautiful places to visit. DEEP program is a great choice if you wish to organize your studies and research independently.”
