The FGL Survival Japanese Program was conducted for new FGL students from 23rd to 30th September 2016. The students learned essential expressions and vocabulary for daily life in Sendai and had time to walk around campus and the city with Japanese students during this program.

The Japanese lessons covered transportation, greetings/self-introductions, emergencies, natural disasters, and shopping. Besides studying, the program's participants played a card game that taught them about disaster mitigation, experienced orienteering on Kawauchi Campus, and went on a tour of Aobayama Campus.

All participants were satisfied with the program: “The class gave some important information regarding daily life in Sendai. For example, the transportation guide was very useful,” one student commented. Another said: “Very useful content to help foreign students understand university life in Japan.” One student mentioned: “The class was quite enjoyable and informative.”
