On 14 January 2025, the Tohoku University STEM Network (TUSTEM)\u00a0
\r\nhosted a special Coffee Event featuring Prof. Hideo Ohno, the former President of Tohoku
\r\nUniversity and a world-renowned physicist in the field of spintronics. The event provided
\r\nstudents with a valuable opportunity to learn directly from Prof. Ohno\u2019s extensive
\r\nexperience as a researcher, educator, and university leader.<\/p>\r\n
\r\nIn his talk, Prof. Ohno reflected on his tenure as President of Tohoku University and shared
\r\ninsights into the major milestones achieved during that period. A central highlight of his
\r\npresentation was Tohoku University\u2019s selection as the first university under "University for
\r\nInternational Research Excellence", a significant national recognition that reflects the
\r\nuniversity\u2019s strength in research, innovation, and global competitiveness. He also discussed
\r\nthe strategic direction of Tohoku University, emphasizing its commitment to advancing
\r\ncutting-edge research, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and nurturing the next
\r\ngeneration of researchers and leaders.<\/p>\r\n
\r\nFollowing the presentation, the event continued with an open dialogue session, where
\r\nparticipating students actively engaged with Prof. Ohno through questions and discussion.
\r\nStudents asked about his experiences as a student and researcher, his career path, and the
\r\nkey decisions that shaped his journey to becoming President of Tohoku University. The
\r\ndiscussion also touched on leadership, decision-making, and navigating important career
\r\nchoices. Prof. Ohno\u2019s candid and thoughtful responses offered valuable perspectives for
\r\nstudents who are currently building their own academic and professional paths.
