{"id":30033,"date":"2019-08-06T16:02:12","date_gmt":"2019-08-06T07:02:12","guid":{"rendered":"\/english\/?p=30033"},"modified":"2023-02-17T17:55:54","modified_gmt":"2023-02-17T08:55:54","slug":"report-vietnamese-high-school-students-visit-tohoku-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"\/english\/activity\/30033\/","title":{"rendered":"[Report] Vietnamese High School Students Visit Tohoku University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>High school students, who won the first prize in the video competition \u2018FGL Challenge in Vietnam\u2019 last February, visited Tohoku University from July 29 to August 3.<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThe students were introduced to laboratories associated with 3 undergraduate English courses of the FGL: Future Global Leadership program at Tohoku University. They got first-hand experience of novel and cutting-edge research on \u2018Advanced Molecular Chemistry\u2019, \u2018Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering\u2019 and \u2018Applied Marine Biology\u2019.<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThe students also enjoyed the \u2018Tohoku University Open Campus\u2019 along with Japanese high-school students during their first two days. This introduced them to the wide-ranging fields of study conducted at the university.<br>\r\n<br>\r\nDuring the last leg of their trip, they firstly visited the Sendai city waste treatment facility to understand the sophisticated process of waste management here in Japan.  Waste management is related closely to the theme of their competition video.<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThen the students paid a visit to the Arahama elementary school and also visited the Yuriage Factory to learn about novel techniques for growing seaweed. Both facilities were located at the forefront of the area affected during the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThe students had a great learning experience and provided positive feedback about their trip.
