Tohoku University has decided to offer the fully remote instruction for the Fall 2021 exchange students due to the reasons below;<\/p>

\u30fbThe COVID-19 cases have been still rising across the world as well as in Japan<\/p>
\u30fbThe State of Emergency in several areas in Japan (including Tokyo) (will last, at least, until Aug. 22)<\/p>
\u30fbOngoing* Denial of permission to entry of Japan<\/p>
\u30fbOngoing* Suspension of visa issuance<\/p>

We regret to inform you that your\u00a0participation period\u00a0needs to be revised from \"Fall and Spring\" (1 year) to \"Spring-only\" (1 semester) as your acceptance was conditional (onsite only) due to the reasons below, in addition to the reasons above.<\/p>

No online instruction is possible<\/b> due to some reasons such as;<\/p>
\u30fbMaterials for IRT\/IRTLab (research training\/activities etc.) might contain confidential information (to protect the intellectual property right)<\/p>
\u30fbDifficulty in carrying out research works remotely (necessity in specific materials, machines, etc.)<\/p>
\u30fbDifficulty in working out the study time for IRT\/IRTLabs due to the time difference<\/p>
\u30fbStaff shortage due to the COVID-19 situation<\/p>

What are the options?<\/b><\/p>
<\/p>
You need to choose one of the options below. If you choose any options other than (1)<\/b>, please make sure to inform us as soon as possible.<\/p>
<\/p>
(1)<\/b> Participating \"Spring-only\" (1 semester)<\/b> (No action needed); we will provide further details for the Spring 2021 participation later by email.<\/p>
(2)<\/b> Re-applying for the Spring 2022 exchange programs if you prefer participating for 1 year (application period will start from Oct. 1, 2021);\u00a0 please consult with the exchange coordinator at your home university whether you can re-apply for the program. The details of the Spring 2022 application will be announced by the end of September.<\/p>
(3)<\/b> Re-applying for the Fall 2022 exchange programs if you prefer participating in the Fall & Spring program for 1 year (application period will start from Jan. 10, 2022);\u00a0 please consult with the exchange coordinator at your home university whether you can re-apply for the program. The details of the Fall 2022 application will be announced by the beginning of January, 2022.<\/p>
