Courses and course descriptions are subject to modification.
Students in this program are required to enroll in the Individual Research Training course each semester, which is the core course of this program, and to take a total of 10 classes for Individual Research Training A/ B per week. Students do research on a current topic that is related to their field of studies, with the support of research groups to which they are assigned.
The research group, called the Laboratory, to which a student is assigned, becomes his/her home base in the university life. Participation in research activities by belonging to a specific Laboratory is a very important part of his/her undergraduate experience. This is the arrangement where the students form life-long friendship and future close relations.
In the senior year, regular degree candidates are assigned to research groups to participate in their activities and to carry out their undergraduate thesis work. Though the international students in this program are not degree candidates, a similar experience is offered by special arrangements.
Students are required to submit the abstract concerning the results of their Individual Research Training in each semester, and to present orally the results of their Individual Research Training near the end of this program.
Students are assigned to Laboratories with consent of the faculty member in charge, and will be encouraged to participate in various activities of the group. Five credits will be given in each semester after successful performance as determined by the supervising faculty member, although the students are not required to complete an undergraduate thesis.
